I read this book because one of my neighbours recommended the author. Posted on January 16, 2011 | 6 Comments. [after Alexander Portnoy (1933- )] A disorder in which strongly-felt ethical and altruistic impulses are perpetually warring with extreme sexual longings, often of a perverse nature. Philip Roth's Portnoy's Complaint was a prodigy's most sensational fiction, not coincidentally about a prodigiously articulate hero. I'd read Portnoy's Complaint years ago but there wasn't much on offer at the library last time I was browsing for an audio book for the daily commute, so I thought 'why not'? Depression/oh the guilt, Greece/Euro, Portnoy's Complaint & more from Sasha Rolde on InternationalPsychonalaysis.net. The brutally frank sexuality, negative portrayal of Jews, and the dislikable, womanizing main character in Portnoy's Complaint by Philip Roth overshadowed the book.
